Hey guys, the video I made for Ludo’s song “Save Our City” is up online if you wanna check it out!
Earlier this year my old pals of the band Ludo came through Albany, NY (near where I live) to play at Valentines. So I got on the phone with Tim and let him know that I was excited to see them, but also was wondering if they wanted to do a cameo for my new record / animation project… they agreed, not realzing it involved torturing them with near freezing temperatures in my unheated studio. But they pulled through and, while giving their moog player Tim a pre-gig lift to the guitar store, we discussed the possibility of doing a video for a re-release of their Broken Bride EP. So I just finished – and though I had to compromise a little bit on making it super slick, it think it turned out really fun. The zombies are pretty funny!

The song we chose was the super-dramatic and mega-epic song, Save Our City. It’s a great song and really well produced, kind of Queen-ish? And it’s loooong – so we had to think of a strategy that help us get through it quickly. To do it, we devised a fast animation technique in which we rotoscope puppets, blending in the characters with painted backgrounds and watery effects to achieve a dark, inky, loose, animation – as if it were drawn with markers or something. We were able to preserve some of the raw video from the puppets and blend it in with the animation which has cut down on animation time. It’ll be out there in the world before you know it so I’ll be sure to make announcement!!
